Is the rear bumber for a 47-53 1/2 t. different from the front bumper? The holes in the rear brakets match up with the holes in the front bumper. The catalogs usually only list front bumpers. Whats up with that?

1947-1955 front bumpers are the same for the ½ & ¾ ton the 1 ton bumper was the same style but “almost another 3rd thicker
1947-1953 rear was a flatter style the 1947-55 panel , suburban & canopy exp. Was the same as the front

I think the front and rear bumpers were slightly different. Chevy Duty, LMC and Jim Carter seem to have different parts for front and back. I believe the bolt holes are the same so you could switch them, or use two of the same, but front and back are not identical.

I read somewhere that lots of farmers removed the rear bumper to be able to back the bed right up to the loading dock so they are often missing from the truck.

Yes, different. But it is important to note that in 1951 rear bumpers became optional. That is probably another reason they are so hard to find.

I have a rear bumper off a 51 1/2 ton that I would let someone have cheap + shipping.

The 47-53 front and rear bumpers are different on these trucks. The Front have a much greater curve to them at the ends. The rear is much flatter overall. I believe the 54-55 rears are notably different as they have a notch in the center of them. All the vendors have repops for both front and rear. The repops are not as heavy guage as orginals. Original rears are harder to find in good shape than fronts. It appears a lot of them were badly bent while chain towing lesser makes of vehicles.
