I have a 1953 1/2 ton that I purchased . It currently has a Chevy 10 bolt rear end under it. On the drivers side the caliper is on the rear side and on the passenger side the caliper is in the forward position. Is this normal or is there a reason they are not both on the same side? It has gm mid size calipers with parking brake option and both are marked L for left side? Truck was restored many years ago.

To start, your truck was not "restored" if it has rear disc brakes, it was modified.

As for the calipers being on opposite sides, My F-250 came that way so I have no doubt many GM vehicles did too.

Bntolong, Believe you have the same system that I used. It's bade by The Harrison Road CO. Now I'm using their brakes on a 3/4 ton. But if you find the instructions you might become enlightened. Because the Calipers are mounted the same as yours.

Late 70's and early 80's Firebirds, and Camaro's had off set calipers like you describe. They could use only one caliper for both sides, saved money that way. I believe the Cadillac's used the same caliper in those years.

My Gen-3 Borg Warner rear end came like that,it caused some issues hooking the parking brakes up,a Lokar kit cured that but since i've changed out my rear suspension for a parallel 4 link, the LH caliper parking brake mechanism fouls the axle mount.

I have noticed the ones with the alloy calipers are both in the same orientation to each other.
