Just recently purchased after many years of searching for it a 1948 chevy 6400 open cab fire engine 235ci, 4 speed with 2 speed rear the truck served over 35 years as line duty engine but now has been sitting since the 90s what are some things i need to look for before trying to fire her up aside from cleaning gas tank and running new fuel line and carb rebuild
also what brand 6v batteries do yall prefer and where are yall sourcing brake parts.

Welcome to Stovebolt.com, Quintrell864

Optima 6v battery.

I got most of the parts for my 54/55 GMC 2-ton from Rockauto.com (often by using aftermarket part numbers from people here). They are "lean" on big truck parts, though.

Welcome fellow firebolter!! As for parts I'll let those much closer to you comment. For work first done, you've got fuel covered, check through ignition to be sure all good too.

Since you are in the rust belt, oil the valve stems, make sure all the valves go down easily, so no pushrods get bent.

I have a '37 GMC open cab fire truck, nice driver, yours looks nice, good you have it covered.
