The Hatton Ferry is about 40 minutes south of me located on the James River near Scottsville, VA. Key sentence here is: The last poled ferry in the United States of America. Established 1870 Incredible photo opportunities to say the least!

Two good breweries in the small town of Scottsville, good food available from vendors that ply their trade to the breweries.

One year they tried adding another poler and the local roads shut down for the increase in traffic.

I went on the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry years ago and if remember correctly it only held 2 cars. The other car happened to be a Corvette owned by an Airforce person from Grissom AFB in Peru Indiana about 35 miles from. I tried to find pictures of the old one I think it only held 2 cars and had a side cabin. The new one holds 8, and is propelled by a tug and held in place by a cable that drops to the lake bed as it crosses.
