Just installed a "new" reproduction door handle remote on my '49 1/2 ton. The shaft on the remote is loose in the housing causing the handle to rattle and move both up and down and side to side. Looks like the shaft was not set tight in the housing when manufactured. What gives? Does anyone make a decent QUALITY reproduction door handle remote?? Another question....can inside door handle be shimmed on the shaft to tighten them up and remove the play in the handle?

That particular arrangement of parts is stamped flat stock steel. The factory ones held up OK for quite a while amazingly enough. I can see where an aftermarket one could be sloppy.
You may be able to disassemble it and work the metal until everything fits tighter, or look for good used originals.

Even with new remote and a new door handle, the inside handle was still loose an a booger to try tighten.
After looking at the new vs the old, then looking INSIDE the new door handle at the cut splines it was easy to see my biggest problem. It was the shallow cut splines... frown At least it was my particular problem.
I'm going to switch back to my "slightly used" old ones. At least they work better.

Thanks Carl and Alvin for you words of advice and wisdom concerning the door handle remotes. When I purchased the new remotes and handles the passenger side fit perfectly with no slop in the handle or remote. The drivers side is another story. Slop in the shaft on the remote and slop in the handle to shaft. What gives? Same vendor and same manufacturer. Quality control is obviously very loose...no pun intended. Looks like I'm looking for NOS or a good used handle and door remote.
