For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 293 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 293 | Finally got around to investigating if the engine and head numbers match or even if I could find some information on them. This is a Canadian built model 1434, Ser # 0143416066 Engine casting code X384619 matches the id plate on the door post. Block # 3835327 The head casting located between number 1 and 2 valve springs under the cover shows 3835517 with GM above it and 2 below.( the head number is the only one I could confirm) Checked on every site and link on here and then some and can find no definitive confirmation that this is a numbers matching engine. Is it possible because it was never originally registered that it just disappeared from any database? First drive after 3 years should be within a couple of weeks. I'm also having it appraised later this month and would like to have something to show the fellow doing it!

I will be attending the Reynolds Museum in June for the History road exhibit and will see what they may have for information. Kinda a follow up question on the valve cover. If I should repost under a new topic I will, there are slots that are open on the top are these for additional venting or to provide the intake of air to aid in blowby or both? https://goo.gl/photos/spZbXT9Dd5hHovnT7https://goo.gl/photos/xM57i8w3uz1hLozm9

The fresh makeup air comes from those slots that you mentioned. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 293 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 293 | Thanks makeup gas/air is a term I have used a lot in my line of work as a oil and gas consultant, I just wasn't sure if the slots were used to aid in the exhaust of blow by.

Below 30 MPH there's not enough airflow past the end of the road draft tube to create a vacuum in the crankcase. A slight amount of vapor coming out of the valve cover slots is normal at idle and low road speeds, but if there's a noticeable amount of blush smoke puffing out of the top or bottom, it's engine rebuild time. How original is it? Thats the million dollar question? As far as I can tell or find while cleaning it up everything is original on the truck, It does have a rebuild tag on the carb but no indication of work being done on the engine. When I had the inspection done on it to register the mechanic said they were original plugs, points and wires. The brake shoes are all original with very minimal wear on the drums. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,272 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,272 | Does it still have the Thrift Master script on the valve cover?
