For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 208 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 208 | Hi all, I am currently rewiring my 1949 3800 with a Speedway 12v 22 circuit harness and want to go with a more modern ignition switch with the start on the ignition instead of the old foot starter switch. If possible i would like to keep the look of the traditional ignition. is there such a critter out there? What have others used?
EDIT: I am using a 283 V8
Thanks Bryan

They attach in very different manners. The '47-'53 switches are held in place on a bracket behind the dash by 2 bolts which go through two long ears cast into the switch. The switch itself does not even contact the dash. The '55-59 appears to have a threaded bezel which holds the switch to the hole in the dash. I'm sure it can be done, but the challenge will be to make it pretty (albeit not stock in appearance). Carl

There would be ways to use the foot stomp and a switch to make it "original'ish", Maybe This

You can fake it with a starter button under the floor. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
