For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 | I have a 54' 3100 step side and removed my current license plate that was mounted towards the left side under the tail gate. I bought original 51' larger California license plates and bought a rear license plate mounting bracket that had a light on it. I'm just wondering where it actually goes or how to mount it? I do not have a rear bumper with the dip in the center. I also have 39' Ford frenched in tail lights. Any ideas folks. Thank you in advance.

This item is available from vendors like Chevs of 40s etc and show up at swap meets. I'll try to pm a photo for you. Best of luck

Did you buy a 1951 truck rear license plate bracket/holder?
"39' Ford frenched in tail lights" - can you post a link to a photo? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 | I bought a 54' rear license plate holder that comes with a light. I will try and post a pic, not so savvy with a computer and posting as some folks.

The bumper of a 54 should have about a 20 inch wide depression along the top of the bumper in the middle that is there to allow you to see the license plate. Wait, as I was typing this I just realized my 54 does not have the correct bumper. I don't have the depression. Now I am depressed. 54 rear license plate bracket with light

I'll have to double check because since the truck is modified, I don't think I have as much room between the bumper and bottom of the tailgate. I bought the front splash apron that fills the front bumper and grille area and I couldn't fit it in there. Not sure if he modified the depth of the bumper or not. I really need to post pics. I might just have to drill a new hole under the tail gate. There's 2 already there for the current size license plate CA uses. I bought these 51' plates and they're cost me a pretty penny since they were clear to register and are in awesome original shape. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 186 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 186 | When I got my 54 it had the license plate on a non oem step style bumper. That bumper is gone and I currently have a license plate bracket that attaches to the back of the left tail light. I got that from chevs of the 40's.it is a factory option as far as I can tell,as I have seen them on other trucks..could be another option for you. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 | Thank you for the idea and I have seen that as well. The problem with that style holder is that I have 39' Ford tail lights frenched into the rear fenders as I noted in my initial post. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | As posted above, can you post a photo of what you have to attach to, and what you have that needs to be attached? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 15 | I mounted it under the tailgate to the left side. Used a preexisting hole and drilled another. I have a license plate frame with the current stickers so I had to get longer screws. It looks pretty good. Thanks all for your help. | | |
