Howdy all...
I'm currently removing paint and rust from the cab down to bare metal, inside and out. Any suggestions on how to remove surface rust from behind the dash? I'm using a wire wheel on an angle grinder and it won't fit behind the dash...too big.

I'm doing a frame off on my 53 and I've been thinking about that too.When I get there I might try sandblasting but there are some other options such as POR15 or ZeroRust currently being discussed in this forum.

Skippy...the other options you mentioned, would that be good enough as far as spraying on and wiping off? I've never used anything like that before. Would that get rid of the surface rust or just kind of paint over it to cover it up? I was thinking about using a Dremmel tool with a small wire wheel on it. It would take forever, but it might work.

I've never used either POR15 or ZeroRust but they are encapsulating so I think that it works like a penetrant,pushing all of the air out of the pitting,taking away one ingredient in rust=air.When I do mine I'm gonna clean it up good but I'm not gonna get to picky with it.I'll probably use zerorust because it's alot safer,especially in a confined area like behind the dash.read the msds for por15,it's scary

I ended up using zero rust, just clean everything up real good, don't worry about removing the rust, and paint (it encapsulates the rust). Removing everything from the dash area including speaker panel, cowl vent,(this will let out all your paint fumes) glovebox door etc. really opens this area up, also if your rewiring everything remove that too along with your duct tubing. This area was never painted originally (now you know why).
