Hello everybody. I am reaching out to all of you. Has anybody come up with a color code for the original accent color, for the glove box, ashtray and speaker grill? A quick look at the reproduction parts catalogs yielded nothing. So, I am asking you guys for help. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

1953 standard-interior cab?

There were black accents available on some trucks in 1953. I have owned two trucks with black dash trim (glovebox too) as shown here.

Both were 1953 models. It is also fairly common to still find the black accent ashtrays on eBay. This is one I have now and it like the trim above was not repainted. I have never seen the ashtray in black with anything but the maroon knob.

I have never seen the black trim mentioned in any literature.

Tim, I am not sure what to call my cab. It is a three window. I know technically the 53's, didn't really have any extra chrome or stainless. However, I am going with the stainless glove box, and Chevrolet trim, over the speaker grill. Brad, I know that I see NOS ashtrays on ebay all of the time. They are all black. I just thought that was just a primer. I don't think I want to leave one black. I just want to paint all of the ribs on the ashtray, speaker grill and glovebox, the intermittent colors. Using the main interior color and the lighter accent color. That is what I have in mind. If anybody has come up with that accent color, for that application, I would really appreciate you sharing with me.

1953 standard ("3-window") cab.

Brad shows some good evidence.

!952/53 were "dull" (not much chrome/stainless) years, due to need for nickel/metals for the Korean Conflict.

Do what suits your tastes. Maybe someone will come up with an accent color suggestion.

I know that there was very little to no chrome or stailess on the outside or inside of the 53. I figure that theoretically, you could have gone down to the Chevrolet dealership and purchased all of the chrome and stainless that was offered on previous years. I know that probably didn't happen a lot. Because, after all, they were work trucks. Not fancy trucks, like we have now. But, I am going with the chrome and stainless. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I believe that the lighter accent colored stripes were used on pre-Korean War era trucks.

I am pretty sure you are correct. As I mentioned in my last post, I am taking some design liberty, when it comes to the interior. I really like the stainless and chrome, of the pre-Korean War trucks. Had you wanted to, you could have gone to your Chevrolet dealership and purhased all of the deluxe items. Then installed them. Chrome grill, hubcaps and bumpers. Stainless glovebox and the two bars above and below the speaker grill. I know that it probably didn't happen much. After all, these were work trucks. Not something for show. But, that is direction that I am going with my restoration.
