Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 127 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 127 | greetings, has anyone been able to free-up a windshield crank mechanism ? my gears don't appear to be stripped, rather stuck from sitting and possibly the steel shaft reacting to the aluminum housing. the bottom has a metal wedge thats pinned to the housing, and extends into the worm gear. if i drill out this pin and remove the wedge, will this free up the crank ?, or should this be sent in to rebuild ? thanks..
Just because you have a few Craftsman tools, it dosen't mean your a craftsman.

The brass thrust block had worn away and what was left wedged itself against the worm gear shaft. The spur gear shaft's axel had worn an elongated hole in the zinc die-casting. Have photos of the whole thing disassembled if you need. | | |
