I am thinking of putting a v8 in my 59 and found a bellhouseing at one of the shops but don't know if its correct. Can I look for a casting /pn on it? | | | | Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 111 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 111 | I think I can answer this one, although not in detail. Yes, there is a difference in the block to bellhousing bolt pattern between the 235 and the 283/327. The series of inline 6's after 1962 did share the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the V8's, as I understand it.
Others with more knowledge will certainly chime in. I just caught this one as I am about to announce a mea culpa. | | | | Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 336 | Here is a tech tip that will explain the bellhousings http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/engines/bellhousings.htmlJust remember, use the starter that fits the bellhousing you use. If you are going to use factory engine front mounts, you'll need the crossmember V8 extension brackets and a set of V8 engine block mounts. Also, the throttle linkage is different for a V8.

Just need to find the bits and pieces from a donor truck or also aftermarket motor-trans mounts are surely out there. Best of luck

A 3815891 bell has that size opening.

Went by the shop today and the bellhousing is a 3733365 But best was the guy says its scrap so take it home for free. Will check the dia of the opening as I would like to keep my old 4 speed. Looks like the opening is 4 5/8 hope that is gona work. Well looking at this further it is probably a car bellhousing, there are 2 bolt holes holding the motor mounts and my truck has one. maybe this was not as good of a score.
