Can one use vacuum brake bleeding technique to bleed brakes on '58 Viking two ton grain truck.? I'm getting conflicting info on what order to do wheels. Also there is a bleed valve a few inches from hydrovac unit. Should I vacuum bleed there first.? Thanks for any advise. Are rebuilt master cylinders available anywhere?

Hy txpete, you must bleed the Hydrovac first the bleeder at the the end of the cylindrical projection then the one on the top of the major diameter of the unit. Then from memory right rear, left rear, right front, left front, but I will confirm that with a check in the maintenance manual, you may use any method that you choose to bleed the brakes, however pressure bleeding seems to give the most trouble free results, hope that helps.

Thanks Master. Tried today. Ugg 3 of 4 wheels leaking fluid from wheel cylinders. Do you know a source to buy replacements or repair kits ?

Any parts store should have 1 1/2" cups for your wheel cylinders if they are not pitted badly, otherwise brand new wheel cylinders should be available from good auto parts store or ebay.

Hy txpete, my name is 3B, there are two different possibilities for rear wheel cylinders for your truck, the standard duty wheel cylinders have a 1 1/2" bore the p/ns are Raybestos WC18196 and WC18197 one of each will be required for each rear wheel they are both available at RockAuto $27.99 each. The heavy duty wheel cylinders have a 1 5/8" bore the p/n is Raybestos WC19107 $25.79 each at RockAuto two required for each rear wheel. If you need front wheel cylinders let us know. There are repair kits available for the rear wheel cylinders but two different types of cups are available, ring type cups (hole in the center) or solid cups so we would have to know what type of cups you require, hope that helps.

Also, when bleeding the brakes, I believe you need to loosen the brakes all the way on the rear so it forces any air bubbles out. (best to read through the shop manual).

I made a power bleeder from a cheap 1 gallon sprayer I bought from Lowes. It pumps up t0 40 PSI and worked great! There are 2 bleeder screws on your hydrovac unit, need to bleed those in the proper order, before any of the wheel cylinders (see link below). http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955truck2/55ctsm0528.htm

I believe 3B is correct on the wheel bleeding sequence. The main thing to remember is bleed the longest line first, working to the shortest one last. The 55 manual has a different sequence than the 58 manual but, the hydrovac is on the opposite side so, that makes sense.

Thanks gb , are you with rock auto? What is the bore for front wheel cylinders, as I ordered some repair kits from rock auto last evening. They showed only one rebuild kit , a 7/8 bore. Hoping this is correct. Do you sell wheel cylinders?
