It has been a long time since I posted on this forum. After a long pause, I have decided to make the final push and finish my truck.

To help fellow truck restorers in the future, I will document everything I do in pics (even the screw ups).

Here is my restoration blog:

Cool, is it a 42 or a 45, no differences that i know of. I have a 42 1/2 ton rod and a 46 3/4 ton I am working on now. I see you are in Ohio also and have been a member of this forum for a while. Will your truck be completely stock when finished?

The truck was titled as a 42 but it was made in 45. I will keep it as stock as possible. I will keep the original war parts painted. Almost went with chrome handles but I am going to use the old bakelite ones.

Jeff, Progress is looking real good. I've seen a couple war era trucks, had lots of unique parts.
Best of luck
Jim

Nice pics, I am also from Ohio I am on the south end of I77 ,below Marietta. I have a 46' that I have been making a push to get much more done this winter. I am hoping to get the engine started before spring. I have made some good progress in the last month.

I have a couple grille pieces that are just painted, '42 production, since there was little war production, everything not registered in '42, was titled '45 after the war.

Jeff,

Nice to see you are back to your restoration. Your project is looking good.

It is my understanding that only one of the nine Chevy assembly lines continued to produce civilian trucks (no cars) during the war. Pick up trucks were much less common than larger trucks.

If memory serves, this one was made in Norwood, Ohio.

I look at craigslist occassionally for parts across Ohio, W VA and Kentucky so we probably look at the same parts. There was a 45 all body no frame with title in Washington Court House a while back that was stripped stored inside and was a good buy. Just about made the leap --just because it was a 45 with all good body parts. But I have a 42 and 46 ----haha.

The 46 I have needs a (54 235) valve job and some lifter attention, maybe cam, but it starts and drives.

I'd like to hear how you got your new headliner installed. Fiberglass one piece? Two piece cardboard? I have 46 GMC and my first headliner install did not go so good.

I put in the two piece cardboard headliner.

It was definitely a two person job and I remember it was a bit of a pain, but it looks good.
