If I understand it correctly, you would take 1 1/2" of material out of the front of the hood and taper the cut back to 0" at the rear of the hood. To take 1 1/2" out of the whole length of the hood it would require modifications to the firewall and cowl so that they all meet up correctly. Does this make sense?

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 9 | I would have to agree with Phil, sounds like a piecut would be your best bet otherwise your cowl is going to be a couple inches higher than your hood. The pie cut isn't as easy as it sounds unfortunatly. The steel has memory, which simply means when you cut the middle of the hood it will try to return to being flat. This is because when the metal is stamped it is forced to remain bent by the other features of the hood, the body lines and folded edges. When you cut the hood, the tension will be released and the curves will slightly flatten out. So when you try to re-connect the two halves there will be a width difference across the hood. The way around this is to weld a brace to the hood in several places approaching the cut line as close as possible. This will minimize the amount the hood is allowed to flex and will help you to realign the two halves. After you get the pieces back together, simply remove your braces...
Need more space for VEHICLES in the list area! Maybe I just need to thin the herd...
