Hey guys, Well its not a stovebolt but I knew your expertise would help me out. I just purchased a '59 Rambler American. This car has been in a garage for 10+ years without starting it or anything. Flathead 6, 3 spd. Where do I begin in the process of just getting it to run. WD40 in the cylinders to make sure its free? I'm listening...........

WD-40 might not be the best choice as a free-up oil. I'm partial to Kroil, made here in Nashville, (www.kanolabs.com), but Liquid Wrench or PB blaster will do more to free up stuck rings, etc, than WD-40. Check out the ignition system, points, plugs, etc. If there's any stale gas in the tank, ditch it, and refill with fresh stuff. Cooling system, drain and refill with 50/50 antifreeze and water. Inspect the radiator for corrosion after it's drained, repair if necessary. Inspect and/or replace radiator hoses, fan belts, etc. Install a hot battery, clean or replace cables. Once it's running, do a thorough check of the brakes before hitting the road. Brakes are usually the first thing to go in long-term storage, even befor engine problems happen.

BTW, I've got a 1960 Rambler American 2-door wagon that's been parked since 1984, waiting on shop space for a restoration.
