Before the day gets too hectic.......

In doing research and work on my '47 3100 ---first series--I have a question.
My much worked on and basic truck has posed many mysteries and created questions that someone here seems to always have an answer for. So here goes......

Did the seat backrest have a "cover" that sealed the backrest springs from sight? My truck doesn't have corner windows so it's almost impossible to see the open backrest.
I don't know if this backrest cover was for later models, models with corner windows, or was standard on ALL models?
There's not one on there now but doesn't mean originally there was. Weird things happen over 70 years.
Someone here has to know about this.

There as been some discussion here on the topic before, I have never seen one personally but did save a picture of a purported original installed.

Jim Carter sells some sort of rear seat panel in three colors (none are now in- stock)
Trim Panel 1947-1955 Brown Attach to Back of Seat and Cover Springs Item #:
UP222BN (Brown)
UP222MR (Maroon)
UP222BK (Black)

That rear cover might not have been used in all Advance-Design years.

Interesting comments. Was checking LaBaron Bonnets site and found reference to this for AD models . I believe they base their kits on original samples they gather. Caused me to wonder if ALL models were had this, specific years or models?
After research here and reading your comments, IF they were standard equipment wonder why's there is sparse actual info about them? Also you logically would conclude that more samples, examples, info would have survived these years.
I know this is perhaps trivial. But you would think there would be an irrefutable answer to this existing----SOMEPLACE?

They might have been more commonly used on earlier seats, that were not full-cab width (changed in 1950)?

Option No. 390 in 1947 and '48 books is same as below.
Option No. 390 in the 1951 Salesman Data Book, so it made it through the widened seat change.

My 1952 book makes no mention of the Deluxe Cab option, I am guessing because wartime chrome restrictions made it a non-option. Corner Windows were available as Option No. 387, but no mention is made of the seat back cover.
No 1953 book, but my 1954/1955 books, Options Nos. 430/431 make no mention of the panel. So my conclusion would be this panel is a fixture of 1947-1951, Deluxe optioned cab trucks.

Thanks for the info! Sure seems a reasonable and logical conclusion. The corner windows would likely provide a a view of the rear of the backrest. And the cover would have covered up an unsightly view of the "deluxe model". Appearance is everything!
Since my '47 is not deluxe, there's really no exposure to the backseat upright.

Hey, my old seat back cover! The truck this came from is a documented 46k truck (43K when I got it). I was lucky in acquiring it from a small museum in Indiana. It had some cosmetic work preformed after the 2 second owner purchased it from the old farmer (original owner) in 1988. The 3rd owner acquired it in 2009 and put it in his open to the public private museum. All the mechanics/drive train were original and in generally good shape. I've spent the past 3 years making it a daily quality driver/working truck and not just a parade truck.

I recently removed the seats from my '51 standard cab pickup, and there was no evidence of a seat back cover. This was a no-option pickup originally purchased by a government agency and shows no evidence of ever being modified, except for some warning light add-ons to the top of the cab and replaced taillights. So that would help confirm the fact that the seat back cover was an option for deluxe cabs.

As Brad's links show, that rear seat cover was available until 1951 (in deluxe cab option).

It disappeared during the Korean Conflict (52-53 - no deluxe cab option).

I do not think it was included in the 1954 deluxe cab option - I will check my documentation.

Not totally sure on my trucks original options, deluxe to some lvl, but I'm the 2nd owner (PO bought new in '54) and mine came with the seatback cover. It sure looks like original, the cardboardy material is similar to other interior items like the door panels, and the texture or grain matches too.
I do have corner windows so if it was to cover the view with that option that would make sense.
