That said, I have no idea what is acceptable to put into service. I ended up buying a 12v Sachs flywheel for an 11 inch clutch on Partsgeek.com for $68 because I didn't want to run a flywheel that had deep cracks in it.

Glazing is, a shiny finish that interferes with the clutch disc getting traction on the flywheel. Try getting a machine shop to grind (not cut) the friction surface to remove the glaze. Another common flywheel problem is hard spots that are difficult to machine or grind away, and they tend to be football-shaped. As the surface is machined or ground the hard spot gets bigger. The spot that shows on the surface is like the tip of an iceberg- - - -there's much more below the surface.

I piggybacked an earlier post last week
The reason I'm doing a clutch is the truck sat with me not running for 14 years and was last registered in 91' according to the plate that was on it
Ever since I got it running and driving, the throw out bearing would make noise when backing out or taking off
After a while, it starting making noise when in neutral and the truck was actually bumping or shaking forward a bit.then the noise kept on when driving
I was sure I would have found a broken clutch disc screw
But upon taking everything out the clutch looks pretty good

If it's making noise with the clutch pedal out and the trans in neutral, the problem is probably in the transmission. Lurching forward in neutral really concerns me.

A few more details
When the truck ran for the first few times, heard a metal squeaking noise
At first thought it was coming from the timing chain cover
It went away after press the cutch a few times. The lurching sometimes goes away too after pressing the clutch. The throw out bearing came out bone dry and the rear 2 motor mounts are not bolted in if this helps at all

| | | | | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 | Update: The new flywheel that I bought online does not fit my engine... it's got one dowel pin hole and it has a larger diameter ring gear, and the bolt pattern is larger. Probably fits a V8.
Now I get to pay return freight- yay. The parts listing said 1958 4.3 liter inline chevy 6 168 tooth ring gear. I thought that a 4.3 is a 261 cu in. I guess not.
Sending the flywheel back.
