Anyone else have this happen? New wiper arms, new wiper transmission arms. Driver side wiper arm fits nice and tight on the transmission shaft and the passenger side arm fits, but it seems loose on the shaft? Removed it and measured the I.D of the arm and the O.D. of the shaft. Only .003" in difference. Any way to tighten this arm on the shaft? Splines line up good.

I have taken apart a few sets from parts trucks and found a paper like material (remnant) so it might have been a chronic problem?

I noticed that paper type material or remnant thereof when I disassembled my old wiper arms and transmission. It was only on the passenger side. Thought...with the new wiper arms and transmission parts that the wiper arms would fit tight...NOT! Anyone know what that paper type material was? Thought it would have rotted over the past sixty years. It did, because there was only pieces of it. Did Chevrolet use this paper type material as a shim for the loose wiper arms? What would be best to use now? Something that won't deteriorate?

Trico actually offered a very neat tool for removing the arms, it works so slick.

Brad,

You always find some of the most unique items for these trucks! That Trico wiper arm remover is really unique. Wish I could find one.

Anyway, any ideas on what I could use to tighten up the passenger side wiper arm on the shaft? Suggestions?

Tim

Have you thought about using clear silicone as you push the arm on it should take up the extra space. Wipe off the excess and let it completely dry before you try it out. If it doesn't work it should be easy to take back to bare metal.

This tool is helpful removing A-D wiper arms.

I'd cob-tighten the fitting by using a strong plastic "shim" around the post (or, try to get a new/used post/transmission-shaft).

They produce a shim tape in a variety of thicknesses (McMaster-Carr). Now I Googled it and see how it is sold, it might be what was used back in the day?

Brad,

Thank you for the lead o the shim tape. I think that is exactly what I am looking for. Will order from McMaster-Carr and see how that works out.
