Ok I've been trying to get my gas gauge to work, the sender and gauge are both new and I even sent them back and the guys at Jim Carter said they worked for them but sent me new ones anyway, it just sits on empty, if I ground out the wire going to the sender the needle will play between below empty and empty can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Did you replace the wires from and to the gauge to the sender? and install a good ground from the tank/sender housing to the frame?

definitely have a look at the article.

Another quality post.

make sure the ohms match up with the gauge and sending unit
sometimes they can get mix matched

Fred makes a good point. If the resistance doesn't match between the sender and gauge you'll never get an accurate reading.
