I remember seeing pictures and discussion here or the old GMC forum. | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 | I just bought a rebuilt sm420 tranny that came out of a '65 pickup that has the backup light switch attachment.

Works great! The only thing I am going to add is a 2nd switch somewhere so I can turn them on and leave it running with the park brake on. That way, I can have them on when hooking up a trailer or working back there behind the truck. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Wire in a timer to the bypass switch so you don't forget and leave it on to annoy drivers behind you- - - -maybe 10 minutes or so before switching off automatically. The switch attaches to a new gear shift lever retaining cap and the light switch lever attaches to the gear shift shaft. When the trans is put in reverse the switch lever pushes down on the switch button turning on the lights. The part number is 987454. I'm not sure what year it was introduced, but it would work on ALL SM-420 transmissions. Mike B | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 188 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 188 | Thanks guys.
