My 52 chevy appears to have originally been blue. What was the actual color name and does any one know a paint code that I can use to buy a close match?

welcome to the shop mr! someone may come along who's accomplished the same hunt yer on, but you'll probably have to end up 'close enough'

check here or maybe here - prolly Admiral blue or Twilight blue - problem is the old paint codes are laquer and there's no easy crossover for the modern paints

PPG should be able to help you (however, your local PPG jobber might not want to pursue this).

Try calling one of the phone numbers below and give them PPG-10419 (originally Ditzler, DQE-10419) as the code and tell them the year/color you are looking for (1952, Mariner Blue). Mariner Blue changed in 1953 (different shade and different code - same name).

The above numbers are 6-7 years old. If you try any of the numbers, would you please post if they are still good?

I don't see why you couldn't color match a modern acrylic urethane paint to an old lacquer paint. The lacquer does not change the shade! You should be able to color match any paint out there.

Or, he could repaint in lacquer if he wants to. It's a very forgiving paint that is easy to work with. If it's kept in a garage, the paint could look good for many years.
