He's the resident Holmes expert. I expect he'll be along shortly. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Need more info to help with the value... Do you have a model number (500, 515, 525 etc.). Should be a small brass tag riveted to the mast on the passenger side. Do you have the complete assembly (Winch, Mast and Booms)? Is there a service body? What style, Platform or Chariot? Any accessories come with it (Beacon Ray Light, Axle cradle, Dolly Wheels, Ground Anchors, Scotch Blocks, Snatch Blocks etc.)? What size truck are you putting it on? How about a picture... Mike B | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 60 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 60 | I checked, it was off a Holmes 440, and there was nothing other than the winch (which he wanted 500$ for) I could think of a few things to use the winch on, but out of my price range...
I've always wanted a wrecker, if I do build one it would be with the '53 chev 1100 (currently has a grain box / hoist, but box is rotted) | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Other than nostalgia, cable and boom wreckers are totally obsolete. There hasn't been a car or truck built in the past 25 years that can be towed without doing major damage with a sling and tow bar type tow rig. Don't let someone with one for sale rob you for something that's only worth scrap iron value. Jerry

It started off at $2500, but I think eventually sold for $2000. So unless someone really, really needs one quick, I wouldn't think just the winch, would be worth a lot. | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | You could use it for a loading winch on a flat bed or fixed ramp bed. Or even a flatbed with a loading arm. | | |
