hi

looking for color pics of 'dog bowl' hubcaps painted in original color schemes. not the chrome ones, the painted ones.

1955 2nd series 3100.

it has the 'dog bowl' hubcaps - that are held on to the wheel with the metal brackets that are part of the wheel. I was lucky to get them (or so I think).

they are structurally 'sound' but were faded beyond the point of any colors.

I sanded them down and sprayed them with a white primer - which actually made them look pretty good. but I am wondering what they used to look like when new (like: are some parts of the hubcap painted red or black?) so I can try and paint them the same way.

thanks

Here are a few both GMC and Chevrolet. All are NOS (except mine). I paint my own and you can putty and finish them just like new (they are double thick and don't respond well to hammering). I use white refrigerator enamel and as strange as it may sound mask a couple letters at a time. Spray them with enamel, remove the tape within a couple minutes and using bamboo skewers from world market and Q-tips, carefully scrape and remove the overspray. Time consuming, yes.

I also restore Coke machines and use the same technique on the white lettering.

With practice they look fantastic and the enamel holds up well.

If I remember correctly, the hubcaps were painted white with the body color of the truck or BLUE around the Chevrolet bowtie. The Chevrolet bowtie was also white.
