hello everyone , been trying to find answers on cam replacement

and adjusting hydraulic lifters . should i pre soak the lifters,
use a break in oil or break in oil additive , run the engine at 1800 rpm or 2500 rpm and for how long ? this is for a chevy 350 engine with 3000 miles on it , need to replace the cam due to a push rod broke and the engine

problem was discovered and another lifter was failing . thank you 1pete1

I just have to know, how do you drive anything 900 miles with a broken pushrod and not know it?
