Tried chasing it with a tap but it will not hold the bolt... Is there enough meat there to helicoil or should I try to weld it , drill and re-tap? | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Use a thread repair method called a "Riv-Nut" It fits into a hole drilled oversize and is installed with a plier-type tool similar to a pop riveter. Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, and similar places sell then, plus they're available on Ebay. It's a quick, easy, and permanent fix. Jerry

Or try tapping a fine thread same size bolt? Maybe a metric bolt is just a tiny bit larger and tapping it would provide a solution? | | | | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 38 | Thanks for all the suggestions...will dig in tomorrow | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,115 Insomniac | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,115 | How did you make out with this problem? I have the same issue. It looks to me that the riv-nuts are 5/6-18 NC thread, but the special hood bolts are 5/16-24 NF threads.

I will check but I could swear the hinge bolts on my 59 were 5/16 x18... Very possible I'm mistaken...I'm a woodworker not a mechanic! Will post how it works out... Anything to squeeze the rivet section out against the hole works- - - -the plier tool just makes it quicker to install a bunch of 'em. Jerry
