I joined stovebolt 15 years ago or so. haven't used it much
I have 51 3100 pickup. I started a on cab restore several
years ago but stop, moved bought new hous or two and worked on them. But now I want to start working on the Old truck. Need info on what rear end, trans, etc and what years fit

I have a '50 3100 with a '53 235, a 1985 T5 transmission, and a 2001 Nissan Xterra rear end. These mods were surprisingly easy to make. The Nissan rear end comes with the 6 lug Chevy bolt pattern, the correct width, and limited slip rear axle. The parking brake arrangement makes for a very simple hook up with the stock assembly. One issue with it however, is that it has a 4.64 to 1 gear ratio. Just make sure that the transmission that you choose has a .72 to 1 fifth gear ratio (overdrive).

If you are asking what years would be stock/period correct, you've asked in the right place. If you want to modernize it, you should ask in the HiPo forum.

To keep it stock a '49-'53 engine, transmission and rear end would be needed. A '54 235 or 261 would be a period correct upgrade. A '55.2-'62 235 or 261 can be used with slight modification to the water pump.

Need to know what transmission you have.

If you have a 5 speed from a Camaro, look where the case splits into the tail shaft. There should be a tag that has a number that begins with 1352---. that's the number you need. If it is an original trans from a 72 Camaro it's probably a Saginaw or a Muncie 4 speed. The ratio would be 1 to 1.

I back home and I try to find a name plate or something on the
Tranny. I can't find anything.But I don't think I mentioned
that is a Automatic. So if that helps, can you give me any
info?

Automatic in a 72 Camaro would be either a Powerglide (2sp) would have drive, low,or a 350 turbohydramatic which would be a (3sp)would have drive, L1, L2. What engine was originally in the Camaro? 6Cyl or V-8.
