was lookin at my 65 chevy c10 the other day and was lookin at this hole above the windsheild on the driver side (i knew it was there before) well a mouse decided to make that his home well before i got it well by lookin at it closer i seen that there is surface rust along that whole ridge above the windsheild and pushed it a little with my thumb and ya my thumb went right through oops anyway has anyone ever had to deal with this sort of problem and how did you fix it? won't start this project for a while but would like to find out how to fix it

That mouse pee is some pretty nasty stuff. I had a mouse condo behind the windshield on my 46. It rusted a pile of parts and worst of all, the inside still stinks like a mouse toilet.

As far as your problem goes, you will probably have to fashion a patch piece. It will take a lot of metal work to do this.

If I were you..I would make a south dakota/Wyoming run... If you have not started yet, keep your eye out for a dry climate cab. Get a couple of buds, a trailer and go for it.

If you can, post pics and you will get some more advice on how/what to do. Either way, it does not sound like an easy fix.

it don't look like an easy fix, as for the mouse he/she is long gone but ya would like to change the hood on this truck i know this sounds weird but i want to get rid of the 65 chevy hood and replace it with a 61 chevy hood i like your idea 46 bout goin to south dakota/wyoming problem i'd probly come back with another truck instead of what i really need.... i'd change the couple of buds to a couple of A&W Root Beers (i don't drink, never have) but ya don't really know how to post pics yet and i'd have to take some first i wana get all my old bolts on here i got 3 so far and would like more

Sorry Nate.. I meant Buds, as in pals, not as in malt beverages..I'm not much for road tripping either.

Bring some friends and some A&W, grab a trailer and your truck and head west! It is worth the trip. If you found one, from your place, you could do the trip in a day. There is a nice 46 on E-bay out in Rapid City..looks rust free...but bringing another truck home would require me to purchase another home and still pay for the one I'm in now...Buy your toys while you are young and hang on to them...

If you can find someone with a cab in western SD, it would make a nice day trip.

OK Nate, this isn't pretty and my truck is a '55 1st Series with the windshield corners rusted out, but the process is similar. These links will give you an idea of what was involved in my case.

If it is a large area you are best off cutting that section out of a donor cab and welding it into yours. It's pretty involved, that is a big PITA to do.

I hand made all the repair parts for that area (above the windshield)and took pics along the way. I could e-mail them to you. There was old mouse house in there when I cut it open. The factory seam sealer also goes bad (cracks) in that rain channel around the top outside of the roof. Roof is just spot welded down and when the sealer cracks, water leaks into the roof, soaks into the mouse house and rots it. If you do all the welding, redo the seam sealer too.

I drilled all the spot welds and pulled off the roof skin so I could get inside and sand basted the inside and used POR 15 and fiberglass to make the repairs. So far so good.
