I currently have the grill out of the truck for repair and new paint. The three vertical supports are factory black, but need to know the inside color of the two vetical end pieces. Is it the same as the horizontal light gray back bars? Thanks, Steve

Steve,

I have a 53 3100. If I am understanding correctly, they are the two vertical end pieces of the outside ends of your grill. They are riveted onto the ends of the grill bars. They have a couple of square nuts welded into them, to bolt the body. When I took my grill out, those two pieces were painted the same color as the factory body color. Hopefully this helps you out.

From Jim Carter: The 1953 “back splash” on painted grills was light gray (Thistle Gray) to match hub caps and bumper. (as posted above by Rugo)

Rugo, thanks for that info. I know the outside edge of those end pieces are the body color but was not sure about their inside color. Steve

Tim, I know the back splash horizontal bars are thistle gray, but I was unsure about the two ends that Rugo mentioned. Steve

Well, I just made an interesting discovery. After removing the two ends I found the original dark green body color on the inside after sanding off some P.O.'s white paint. I guess that answers the original question. Thanks guys, Steve
