Does anyone have a color chart for the 1956 3800? I am looking for info on color code " 443 J :confused: "

pick your year and chevrolet - another place doesn't list 56, but does have 57 , same difference - you could also check any of the literature dealers and find an original set of color chips such as the 2nd one linked above

there is no color chart for different models, only years, and as I pointed out before, no 400 series codes for any TF year - in my experience the paint code is almost never found on the trucks trim tag, except in cases of special orders

Is that info on your computer something that I can search on the Internet?
Are there any details on the color if I wanted to try to match it back to original?

hey there, you could try autocolor library,just type that into google to find it,then go from there.as far as matching it to the original,you have the code ,so what more do you need ,someone to mix it.take the code to a body shop,they can give it to ther supplier,and mix in in any type of paint you want.sounds simple right,cause it is!!!
or if you have a part of the truck with the original paint on it,shine it up ,take it to a body shop,some shops will have a color camera,if they do they can get you a formula that will be a very good match.dont forget to have a case of beer visable when asking these favours,friday's arond three would be best!!!!ha

Is there any evidence that the truck may have been two tone? My 56 dealer data book lists the paint option codes for model 3803 as 443 (no J) for the deluxe cab two tone option code. The paint codes are **-***** digit numbers and no maroon color available for 1956.

CODE 443 WAS INTRODUCED IN 1951 AS A MAROON/BURGANDY,AVALIBLE IN LAQUER,OR QUICK SET ENAMEL.THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE IS NOT ALWAYS THE YEAR OF THE COLOR.COLOURS ARE CARRIED OVER FIVE ,TEN YEARS, DEPENDING ON THE MANUFACTUER.COLOR CHARTS SHOW THE COLORS DEVELOPED FOR THAT YEAR ,NOT THE COLORS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.I GUESS THEY HAD TO USE UP ALL THAT OLD PAINT,ONCE AGAIN CHECK AUTOCOLOR LIBRARY

Bent - auto color library is one of the links I gave above - it doesn't list 56 [none from 48-56], but does have 57

I doubt much that the 443 listed in the 46-54 paint ID list for 51 [DUCO #28285638, DULUX#580 burgandy red] is what a 56 tag refers to, unless as I said, it was a special order - Bruce's reference shows it as a 2tone option, which says nothing about actual color

need to find some evidence of original color on the truck, and then track down a current color code that's close to the original, as no one seems to have modern formulas for the old Dupont paints [except maybe Bob Adler?] - I even had a paint man try to get some formula info from Dupont and other paint co's for the TF colors and they could not give an answer

It looks like no one has a 1956 Chevrolet Truck Data Book or Restoration Guide with color names, codes, and combinations.

PPG has formulas for most old paints. They would need the make/name/year of the color (and a PPG/Ditzler code would be nice).

What is the color and/or color-combinations for your truck (to your eye)? Here is a list of Dupont colors/combinations for 1956. The 1955/56 color chips are also at that link. Note: the color chips are old and not correctly rendered on a PC screen; however, they might help you identify the color name(s).

Once you get the name, PPG could then help you (and maybe you can find someone at Dupont to help you).

Option Codes differ according to truck model and cab trim level.

BENT - because of the limited list of standard colors selected for commercial vehicles each year, putting the paint code on the tag was wasted motion that most plants didn't bother with unless it was out of the ordinary - I've had/parted 9 TF trucks [CDN and US] and not one had a paint or trim code on the tag

as for location, you\'re not paying attention! - also posts are easier on the eyes if not all caps

red58 OK so I didnt go to your web site ,you got me nieghbour.remember we are trying to help who is it again? taskmaster.alright so codes were not used unless it was a special application,in this case it is,so pull back the moulding taskmaster and let's see what color it is!!

Bent and all other helpers, I checked it again, it is stamped clearly "443 J" on the bottom of the weight tag which is in the door jam. The serial number is higher up and a smaller rectangle tag.
I will look around under things and see what I can find as I know this one has had red paint since the factory paint job.
I will post on here what I find. Thanks again, you folks are great!
This one is a dually, is stamped as "8,800 GVW". Is it worth much? Had Hydromatic from factory, is now 4 speed shifter, and has a Chevy 350 small block with a 4 barrel carb.
He is asking $2,500.

Thanks for that link. For some reason, paint colors are missimg from 1948 until 1955. It shows 1947 and then skips to 1957.
My gut tells me that the "443 J" was a special color, maybe a company color for a regional or national company. Are there any Chevy truck paint experts out there that might recall this number? We are still trying to locate an area that we know would be original paint to see what it looked like, no luck yet.
