I bought a complete 1953 front axle, but everything from the spindles out was disassembled. Can anyone tell or show how to put it back together? I need torque specs, seal/shield locations, etc...
Also, are there any recommendations for front end upgrades? I like the original axle, but I'm thinking a sway bar, modern tie rod ends, and possibly a power steering gear. I want to keep it a stock height 3/4 ton, just easier and potentially safer to drive. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | Have a '53 3600 with stock front end also. Was given a great tip from someone here on the bolt, suggested swapping in a tie rod from a 1 ton which is a direct bolt on but has modern style tie rod ends. This gives you a bit more clearance when going with radial tires. If your truck is like mine EVERYTHING that attaches to the front axle will be worn out and in need of replacement, from leaf springs to steering box!!!!!
You need to get your hands on a Chevy manual for how to info plus parts manuals usually have great drawings that help. All this is online, Old Car Manual project, should be linked to this site. | | |
