The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 250 engine swap question

My mind is running loose this morning, and I'm wondering about building another truck. I've always wanted an AD style and was thinking of using a 250 6 cyl instead of 235/261. I understand the side engine mounts would be needed, and the aluminum bell housing with the transmission (t5) with rear mount would be used. The question I need answered is, would the original clutch linkage still work with the later bell housing? Would the original cross member have to be removed?

I know I shouldn't let my mind wander unsupervised but it happens sometime. I now have a headache. Any helpful ideas would be accepted.

i have used the later 230-292 engines in the art-deco and A/D body styles.. i used frt. mounts and cast iron bell housings with mounts, instead of the side mtr. and rear trans mounts .. i guess you can do it either way depending on the parts available

I think the cast iron bell is a great choice. Readily available and affordable. You then have the choice of using either a bell crossmember support or a support under the T5.

Jay the cast iron bell has the mount for the cross member, but there are none around here, been in all the junk yards, on craigslist. In search of, will keep looking I guess.

A cast iron bellhousing for a 59-61 V8 will fit, but the window for the throwout arm is on the passenger's side. It's designed for a hydraulic slave cylinder instead of mechanical clutch linkage.
