I know, a pretty broad question but I figured most of you have been on the buy/sell side a time or two.
We/I can narrow down this discussion with some leading comments.

Rust is the worst (most expensive) problem(s).
Also, if previous owner(s) "upgraded" the suspension and/or drive-train, a high percentage of those "enhancements" might be a cause for concern.

However the boxed frame tended to accumulate mud and debris inside. and they can rust out pretty badly. The stick trucks have a Hyd clutch release. The throwout fork on pass side. A V8 bellhousing for them is pretty rare.
