The factory accessory instruction manual indicates that the inside "reinforcement" piece, which is a threaded block that goes behind the door skin, is part of the mirror accessory package. Before I pull all the interior trim off the door to find out if my door has one rattling around in there, I thought I'd check here: Was this actually included on all factory doors at some point, perhaps welded to the door frame, or is this something I'll need to find at a swap meet? I don't see it in reproduction being sold by the usual suspects.
The truck in question is a '59 3200. There is a panel in there and all you have to do is drill holes where the supporting panel is from the inside. Worked just fine and quite easy to do. I got a pattern with my mirror that I positioned on the door and the holes I drilled from the outside were dead on.

The skin is double-walled where the mirror goes, and the reinforcement has holes in it where the bolts need to go through.
I guess the accessories manual is referring to some other door skin.
Now, once I get my son off to day care, I'll get that mirror installed. | | |
