My question is the thermostats that you buy to regulate the fan coming on and going off have different temperature ranges depending on which one you buy. The one that I am thinking of getting comes on at 180 degrees, it goes off at 170. Now if the thermostat in the block is 195 isn't your engine going to run at 195 and the fan will just stay on because the temp will never go down to 170. Do I need to get a different thermostat for the engine block? The one I had had a prod that went into the rad. core right below the top hose. You run the engine with the rad. covered till it warms up to the temp you want to come on & turn the knob till it comes on. It will go off at a temp. a little lower then that.
A 180 therm was standard on that model & works better then the 195.

There is about a 20 degree temp drop across the radiator. I struggled with the same temp switch issues. Then I discovered a switch that simplifies things a lot. The switch is sold by Speedway. It is adjustable too. It requires that you have an electric style temp gauge. The temp gauge SENSOR sends a signal to the temp gauge just like usual. I plugged mine into the water outlet that connects to the upper radiator hose. So the electric temp gauge is setup just like you normally would.
This fan control switch (sold by Speedway) taps into the gauge wiring and you can tell it when to turn on by using the actual gauge temperature.
Even though I have not wired mine up, my friend has the same switch and is happy with it.
