Is it advised to open up the crack to get plastic to adhere better? 2. What type of, or brand of plastic filler is recommended? 3. What type or brand of paint is recommended?

question 1. Yes | | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 355 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 355 | Regular plastic body filler will not work on a steering wheel. There are kits sold by the usual suspects to do this; try Chevy Duty: Steering Wheel Repair Epoxy. Part No. 32-391. Price $6.95.

I have some stuff made for repairing plastic bumpers that looks like it should work. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 68 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 68 | I used this stuff that's just called "epoxy" i think it's for bonding rear view mirrors & glass back into mirrors but it holds tight. After i just used fine grit sanding paper, painted the wheel it's copy of original colors, & then clearcoated. All of which was cheap spray/rattle cans but worked Verrry nice I think. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 "MONGO" | | "MONGO" Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 | Just read a tech article on another board where the guy used POR putty from the POR15 people. Looked like it worked pretty good, he also recommended several layers of primer with sanding in between before painting. So I picked up some of the POR putty at the shrine swap last weekend, got a couple wheels I wanna work over. I have seen their ads but yet never have actually met anyone who's used it, seems like if it works as good as they say everyone would be using it... but I cant seem to find anyone who has. (imagina that)
Anyways, if you've used it or know someone who has, what was the results and would you/they recommend it to a friend?
thanks

Amature restorers like to cover it up with por 15 and Rust stop products.
