I plan to paint my 50 grille but unsure what method is best.I am not building show pickup but don't want rust to appear after painting. Do I sandblast grille intact and prime and paint? OR do I dissemble prime and paint? If I take grille apart what fasteners do I use to reassemble? Do I use nuts and bolts, sheet metal screws, or is there a kit available with some type of rivets.

I would disassemble by grinding all those rivets. Jim Carter has an inexpensive kit with screw type fasteners to put it all back together. On my 50 COE, we tried to mask the bars to paint the inner ones white and outer ones body color but that just didn't work. Good Luck,
Kent

You need to disassemble it completely to address any rust issues between the parts. I use tiny stainless steel nuts and bolts in place of the the rivets. You can't see them anyway. You can lie to Denney Graham and he won't know the difference. smile

If you do decide to go down the nut and bolt route, make sure you use nyloc style nuts or similar.
My aftermarket grill uses sheet metal screws and 'j' clips. I've already had a couple work loose.

It's not a job you want to repeat as you'll no doubt discover. grin

When I had my grille done, I advised the painter to not take the grille apart unless absolutely necessary. He was able to spray it (with the back splash in a different colour) without disassembly. I have been very happy with it.

Nylocks can get pretty tall sometimes. They do make half nut nylocks. Stovers take up less space, too.

Fair point,I used some 6x12mm (1/4x1/2" approx) stainless button head socket cap bolts and standard nylocs and didn't have any major clearance issues.
Some of them did prove a little tricky to fit though.
