I'm not sure exactly what truck I have because the VIN and data plate in the cab both say GMC, but everything else outside and inside are Chevy parts. I tried to find the partial VIN on the frame, but didn't locate it. Any ideas? Someone years ago swapped the engine out for a 350 and a newer transmission. They also gave it a poor paint job. Otherwise it's a decent truck and I'm glad to be able to save it and keep it going.

I'm thinking that someone years ago had a GMC that needed lots of body work, had a Chevy parts truck and replaced the body parts. Then probably didn't want mismatched Chevy and GMC parts and swapped out the interior parts also.

It looks like it has the same big rivets holding it in as others I've seen online. Possibly they replaced the kick panel just so that it matched the VIN tag. I'm not going to worry about all of it too much seeing as the DMV titled and licensed it already. I'm not planning on selling it and I'm not planning on entering it into any shows or contests. I'd rather not have to change anything on it if I don't have to.
I'm going to try crawling in and under it again to see if I can find a partial VIN on the frame when I get time. Maybe I can find something.

You are not selling, it went thru DMV. You may or may not clone it further, up to you. Others, including me, have seen and owned trucks like this. We hope someone does not come along and seize them. Probably not. I really hate this phrase BUT: "it is what it is".

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 | nbrs on the outside of the frame were usually part nbrs. there should be a # also on the other rail which may be one digit difference.
a chev frame will have tge ser # embedded on the top of the frame by the steering box which should corespond to which is on the Vin plate; just the last 5 or 6 digits. GMC will not have it on the frame. tnere is not much difference between a chev and gmc frame once someone puts a xbc in it. the exception is the rear suspension. GMC have semi- elliptic springs and Chev have coils, there has been a lot of juggling around with bodies and vin plates over the years ansd most do not seem to care of the legal part of it. the onus will always fall on you if something goes cow poop.
if you are ever in a serious accident with it and no one is ever invincible. that is when things get inspected thourougly and things don't match you may have to have pretty deep pockets as insurance companies always like a way out out and if registration is not correct their gone.
