Does your generator have a spring steel band around the housing on the opposite end from the pulley, or is the housing solid? If it's got the band, remove it and look for the terminal post that is connected to one of the brushes with a flexible pigtail wire. That one is the Armature lead. The same information can be learned by removing the rear plate of the solid-housing generator, but be careful that the pieces don't fall apart- - -the through-bolts hold both ends on.

This is a Delco-Remy generator, stock, with two post n the back. What I need to know is the outboard, or driver's side, the field or armature post. I need to connect the proper post correctly to he voltage reg.

Steve,
I believe Jerry answered this question in his post above.
Only you know if your has a band on it or is solid.

Guys, I think he is saying he has a non adjustable output generator and just needs to know which wires go where from the two posts to the regulator.

It's possible to reverse the connections inside the generator housing during a rebuild. the only surefire way to tell which way to connect the wiring is to:

LOOK AT THE BRUSH WIRING like I suggested!

Since the only person who can do that is our new guy, any more discussion is moot. I've seen these generators set up both ways!

The generator case will have a "F" stamped into the housing under one post. This is the Field terminal and will go to your "F" or Fld. terminal on the regulator. The other terminal on the generator will have a "A" stamped in the case under the terminal. This is the armature terminal and it will go to the "ARM" terminal on the regulator.

Thanks, Ken. That's is close to what I was looking for. I was hoping it was as simple as...."the outboard post is the xxxx".
