I am having trouble removing the oil pump. I can't seem to get the bolt holding the pump in off. It wouldn't budge and I didn't want to break the head off. Is there anything special that I need to do to get this bolt off or any suggestions? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | Gentle heat will solve most issues.

DO NOT DO THAT! The bolt that holds the pump in is on the inside of the engine. It takes a 1/2" wrench, and has a lock nut on it tightened against the block to prevent it from loosening. The lock nut takes a 9/16" wrench. Sorry, I could not easily come up with a picture. I am assuming you are asking about a 1937-62 engine.

I have it off now but the pump will not come out. I loosened the nuts on the pipes and those are loose but the pump still won't come out. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 | Tap the sides of he pump with a hammer to break the junk loose.
