I wish I could put a picture out- but no digital camera or scanner. I'll try to describe...I have 2 trucks, one is a '48 for sure, the other is either '47 or '48, same exact style truck, but a lower serial number. Every picture I have seen of original trucks have the upper portion of the sides being round. BOTH of my trucks are square, and one I am 98% certain is original. So, what gives? Any ideas? Were these produced in Canada with different boxes? Do the long beds have a different style than the short beds? Was there a common aftermarket box put on back then on new trucks ordered without them? Both of them being the same, but different than any others I've seen is just weird. One is from Wisconsin, one is from Minnesota. I know one of them had the original wood bottom at one point, I talked to the guy that took it out. I'll try to borrow a camera and get pictures out.

JaNeily the bed sides of the 47 and 48 should come straight up off the bed and then bend (out) at an aprox 45 degree angle and then roll over into a tube. In the early 50's (53 I think) the bed sides change to bending at a 90 degree angle and then rolling into a tube. Hope this helps if not go look at the gallery and see if you can find something like what you have.

This change occurred with the 1954 model year, not the 53.

Yep, Jeff's right. The change to a 90 degree bend with flat bed rails happened in '54.

But they all roll over into a tube is what I'm hearing. Both of mine are '48's, which I figured out today from another site. They both come out at the 45 deg angle, then come down at a square 90 deg, then another 90 deg, and a third, so it's basically square where the tube should be. I just find it interesting that they both are almost identical, except for a 6" length difference, and not a tube. They also only have 2 stantions (spelling?) instead of 3. I am in a debate with my wife, who swears the box on the truck from Minnesota is original. I know better, but I must be wrong, after all, I'm alone in the woods.... I borrowed a camera from work and got some pictures taken, but have no software to download to my computer. I'll work on that one next. Thanks for the help!

hmm thats interesting, I have never (as I can recall) seen a box with no rolls, but a square...

My guess is that they were aftermarket boxes or homemade..... you might look throught the gallery (with your wife ) and see if you can find a square tube bedside. My guess is that there isn't a one.
