I'm trying to determine the value of a rust-free body (no doors, fenders, hood, etc) of a 1954 Suburban body that has been completely restored and primered. Any ideas? I have all other body parts but just interested in determining the cab/body value. Thanks.

What's the value of a '54 Suburban with all body panels, no rust and options such as window trim, chrome grill, front & rear bumper filler panels, doors and four perfect fenders and great running boards?

That depends on how bad someone wants it.

Are you the buyer or the seller?

Best place to start researching the value of that is right here.

I'm the owner/restorer. Have done 5 '54 Ad trucks. All I'm doing is trying to determine '54 Suburban's body/parts value. May sell, or finish restoration this year. --Al

And we're trying to help ... smile With specialty bits like 'Burb bodies ... there probably isn't a lot of people around with the up-to-date specialized pricing knowledge who can take your description and give you a dollar value. Hence the "research" thing wink

Start with Barry's article, only substitute "'54 Burb Body" for a whole truck, hit the resources mentioned and start searching the internet to get as close as you can and see where the prices lead you.

Heck I don't know ... Start with prices for complete burbs in similar condition and then start subtracting things/values until you get to a body. Then maybe add a premium back in for having done all the removal for someone ... adjust for condition of the shell ... I would imagine a '54/'551st body commands a little more than the average AD burb body ...?

Like Barry says, though ... the more reasearch you do, the better idea you get. And it all comes down to finding someone who wants it and meeting them on a price. Seat of the pants ...

Good luck!

And then, if you come back and are willing to share what you all ended up with as a price, it could help the next guy ... maybe ... Just a thought.

John

If you've done 5 '54 AD's, you are the expert. You know the values. Suburban's are more rare, but they may have less buyers also. I have done many TF suburban's and panels. I like them over the trucks. I like trucks also. A good suburban body, especially the rear quarter panels/fenders, is a good marketable item. If AD is like TF, the front parts are same as trucks and parts are available. (not as rare as the rear). If you have the seats or the rear doors, side window hardware, rear door/gate checks and latches, that's additional value. I don't think you mentioned any of that.

is this what you are speaking of..your recent post

if you have $20,000 in it and now want $15,000 then you will just have to wait for a buyer that wants to pay what you are asking, as folks say, it is worth what ever a buyer is willing to pay..

and willing to assemble

here is an ad for a 54 from 4 yrs ago

this might get you to pondering

You ask for a price....if it was ME buying just the hull/body in rust free primed paintable condition I'd pay 2500 for it.

...then the price goes up PER ITEM as I know the price of fenders/doors/bumpers/Steering components/back doors and the list goes on.

..well, we have to start somewhere!!

$2,500 if Suburban body is rust/hole free and primered.
Including rear window trim, side panel trim, and roof panel trim.

What is the condition of the black linoleum on the rear floor?

Additional $2,500 for all seats cushions/frames/mounting-hardware.

Guys:
Good advice all around. I think I'm going to finish the chassis items and mount the body, fenders, running boards, hood, grill etc. And then decide to either repaint or sell. I greatly appreciate the comments. Thank you.

Achipmunk: Thanks. I needed a number for a starting pointing. Your $2500 suggestion matched my own value. Yesterday we placed the body on the redone chassis, aligned and bolted it. In next week or two, we'll get the doors, fenders, grill, running boards installed. I appreciate your contribution. It got me back to work on this beautiful CarryAll.
