My question is there and water behind the timing chain cover or the motor mount plate ? | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | sal, There is no 216/235/261 chain - truck cam/crank timing gears. There is no water around the timing gears, inside the cover. Someone else will post info about the front plate being sealed against a water journal opening in the block.

I poorly stated that comment: "Someone else will post info about the front plate being sealed against a water journal opening in the block."
I should have put an "if - is" in the sentence: "Someone else will post info if the front plate is sealed against a water journal opening in the block."
Sorry,

I can't find any pictures. | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 | There is a soft plug in the block just below the water pump that could be leading. There is no water behind the timing plate.

Can it be fixed without taking the motor back out of the truck ? | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 | I would suggest looking at the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump with a mirror for leaking before doing anything else.
