How do I tell what I've got under my 51 truck? I am told it was out of a 57 van with auto trans but I want to convert to 3;73 POSI, retaining the 6 lug bolt pattern, so I am wondering where to find the numbers to look up?

If it's out of a Chevrolet, the numbers are stamped on the passenger side of the front of the third member, between two of the mounting holes near the axle tube.
If you can, you might post a pic of it just in case it isn't a Chevrolet differential. That would make it easier to give an identification and to tell you where to look for numbers for verification.
