Looking for advice for longevity/added life span on the craptacularly designed 60-66 roof trough. Water just sits in that trough so stuff rots. I dug all the old seam sealer out of there today. What do I need to do to keep that area rust free? Gimme a recipe for success.

I am working on that section of my 60 stepside. I drilled all the spot welds and took the roof skin off so I could get to all the rust repaired. Then I put a good coat of POR on the inside. Now I have the roof welded back on and almost done grinding all the welds smooth. I was planing on puting on a coat or two of POR there as well to seal it up.

Wow, you're really goin' all out. I don't think I'm up for taking the roof off. This is my daily driver so I have to work a small section at a time. I can not drive it for a couple days at a time but, that's about it.

I cleaned out the channel, then sealed it with "Heavy Dudy Drip Sealer" and painted over it. I also drilled some drain holes on both sides to keep water from accumulating.

iv always taken the sealer off and taken it down to steel then put the paint on the area real thick the sealer dosent hold up as you can see from your truck i think they use the sealer because thats the way its done even if its not the best

ya takin the the roof off thats what I like big T thats the only way to truley get at the problem rust works from the inside out .there are some really good two part seam sealers self levlers that smooth out real nice and flow right inside the cracks 3m,duramix pro form ask your local paint store for cars that is.

I really had no choice but to take the roof skin off to get at all that nasty rust.I had rust above the windshield and above the doors. At the time I could not afford to go down south and buy a rust free cab. So I had to work with what I got. Mine is far from a driver, but it is getting there. Por 15 is some tough stuff and should seal the seam up.
