Attention

As your SAA it is my duty to maintain order and harmony with this ODSS. Also, it also my duty to place challenges as they are fit.

As we all know, we will be without our great President for Homecoming. He has assembled his family to assist in getting his mother's home prepared for sale as she no longer can live alone.

A few days ago, a member of the elite secret service that keeps our President safe sent me this photograph.
Exhibit A

This decal was created by Alec, who is inspired to install his 261 soon. This decal was presented to all 261 owners.

By the power vested to me, I hereby challenge our President to the following task:

With the decal already installed, our President, Cosmo is tasked with getting his 261 installed and running within the next 90 days.

This is a rare and unusual challenge, as your SAA I have never posed such a challenge to our commanding officer.

I look forward to his response.

I can volunteer some shop space for the chosen weekend, ideally June or July because May is plum full.

If Grigg's offer of space doesn't work out. It could be done at the shop one weekend also. I need an excuse to to straighten up my bay anyway. Most anything extra needed we have, and NAPA is a couple buildings away.

If everything is put together as much as possible ahead of time, with a group of guys tag teaming it, the swap could be done in a few hours realistically.

As with any highly technical, extremely precise, horridly expense and fantastically dangerous procedure, a practice run is highly advisable. I have an idea ...

If Hambone has not swapped out his engine yet.
That would make a good practice run next weekend.
Or we could kidnap the Presidential Limo next weekend and just do it.

We can blame it on Hambone, he can take the heat.

292 swap out might have to be planned as diversion from the presidential swap. This is getting very interesting. And I would expect all to be blamed on me as is usually the case.

Stealing Cosmo's truck just is not possible. Remember our President always presents a challenge when working on his truck. The biggest challenge is it doesn't sit still for long as the Presidential Limo is used daily as his primary mode of transportation.

In full disclosure, I contacted the President prior to my formal announcement yesterday afternoon to speak with him personally of my challenge. My initial thought was to permit a timeframe of 6-12 months.

The President called me a chicken. Said he wanted a real challenge and made it 90 days HIMSELF!!!!!

That ladies and gentlemen is why he proudly serves as our President....

If the President was going to be at Homecoming we could have 3 Simultaneous Synchronized Stovebolt Engine Swaps taking place in the new Swap Shop.

If need be, I can bring a homemade picker Dad built years ago.
Used it at the reunion a couple years ago.
John's bucket loader, can also be used.

Let me know what extra tools we will need.
Short chains, chain hoist, come-a-longs, impact wrench, motor stand.
Just name it and I may have it

Do you or anyone else have one if those trolleys to change the engine angle while on the hoist?

No, I do not.
Every time I would think about needing one, the motor would be ready to be yanked and would just adjust the chains accordingly.

Just checked and a Harbor Frieght not too far from us and they have them in stock for 50$.
It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so I think I'll run there and check it out.

Never have used one.

John
Let me know about the cherry picker.
I might just bring tools and leave the 51 first start, for the reunion. Looking like we may have bigger projects to get into.

Why don't we keep this discussion on the topic of our dear president Cosmo's engine swap, which will not happen at homecoming.

Other discussions could happen here for example.
