My system had already been upgraded to 12v but as far as the switch goes it does not matter 6v or 12v. The switch will work with both. It is only a physical connection. There are no working electronics that could be damaged by increasing the voltage. If you are asking about the knob in order to keep the original look there is a set screw on the side of the switch knob that will allow you to install in on the new shaft of a new switch/motor.

You are correct about the original know. It was just pressed on. The new one that came with the replacement motor has a set screw. The know from the replacement motor is a replica of the original. I will do a write-up when I get more time. I feel like this will work for 1954/1955 first also. I bought all three knobs when I started as I did not know the differences and thought one may work easier than another for this project. Turns out all three knobs can be slightly modified to fit the Ford delay and non-delay switch. Hope this helps someone.
