Does anyone have pics on how exactly the tire is mounted using the newer style underbed style carrier? Thanks! I am trying to make a hitch that respects the space needed for that style.

Deve,

Maybe this will help. This is a photo of what's left of the spare carrier under my '51. There are two u-shaped crossmembers (one barely visible under the bed crossmember). The carrier itself is long gone, but from what I can tell, fastens diagonally across those two bars bolted to the frame. I'm not sure how far back the tire would extend, but I'm thinking you may have trouble fitting a hitch that extends forward of the rear bed crossmember.
