Has anyone used the black metal window channel clips? I received a set with my window upgrade kit, but no one seems to be able to tell me how they work.

Hope this link works to a photo of them. These are Part#FA-104 at Classic Truck, and I'm trying to use them in the replacement of my window channel in my 1951 3600. I have read plenty of instructions of how to use screws to attach the channel, and just wondered if these are a better way to go.

Looks like the clips that are on the track that keep it centered against the inner trim. There were 4 or 5 on the original outer track but I think more people glue that track in anymore.

I decided to devote some time last night to see if I could figure out how these clips are used. Not much activity on this thread, so doubt anyone really gives a hoot, but.....I did notice that all along the channel route around the window opening, there are strips of metal which appear to be bonded somehow to the door frame, but no bonding was applied to either end of the strip. This allows the clips to slip under that metal and stay in place. There are two sharp points on the flat surface of each clip that point outward, as if to stick into the channel and hold it in place. Pretty ingenious really, and probably made for very fast and efficient installation in the production line, except that I could not get the points to penetrate the window channel. Perhaps original channel in the day was all fabric and these sharp points could penetrate it, but the channel I have is basically fabric covering a metal channel that has been grooved so it will bend. The points just won't go into that, so I'm back to using either adhesive, or screws, or both to keep the channel in place. File that under, "For What It's Worth".

Those clips were probably installed to the channels with an apparatus similar to a stapler originally.

Again, not that this is anything crucial, but I don't think the clips could have been attached to the channel before the channel went in. If they were, then the clips couldn't have been slid under those strips of metal. I'd guess they probably had some way to hit the channel to force the spikes through and crimp them over at the same time. Maybe someone in their 80's who worked on that assembly line can chime in on this, but otherwise, I'm just planning to get out the tube of adhesive tonight and have at it.
