I have new ones, but can't see any spot welds/welds on the old ones. I hate wrecking more than I have to, has anyone cut them off and left a layer of old tin and just weld the new one to this? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | Don't know the accessability of the area, but if you carefully hand sand the flanges with a medium emery cloth on a flat block, when most of the paint and rust are removed and you are seeing bare metal, the witness marks of the spot welds will become visible. Or you can drive a chisel between the bedside and stake pocket, which will leave a somewhat bigger depression at the spot welds that you'll be able to see. Don't go too crazy and bend the bedside too much.
I had to remove one of mine which was both rusted and crunched.
